Type of Riding?
Road (Cat 2), and an occasional triathlon
Your Ride?
Trek 5200
Years Cycling?
After a lengthy break, began racing in January 2001
Best Race?
The next race will always be better …
Age?
Older than I want to be, but not so old that I'm as wise as I wish I were. Racing age of 39 in 2002.
Favorite Workout?
Honestly? It'd be a tough swim workout, in an outdoor pool on a cold Spring morning such that the fog from the water lingers on the deck - followed immediately by scarfing a bag of peanut M&Ms that have been in the freezer for a few hours. However, my favorite cycling workouts are those 4 or 5 hour solo rides that lead onto new roads in the Texas Hill Country.
Favorite Foods?
During a ride, without question, my favorite food is Snickers. At any other time, almost all food is good, at least anything but mushrooms and/or mayonnaise.
Favorite Pre-race Meal?
Certain old habits die hard, so I tend to "carbo load" the day, and especially the night, before an event. I tend to focus on foods such as pancakes, with lots of syrup, and pasta, with plenty of garlic bread.
Other interesting Facts?
I was fortunate to spend the years between 1981 and 1992 competing in national and international Modern Pentathlon competitions (running, swimming, fencing, equestrian, and pistol shooting), including Olympic Trials for the US team.
